Hola and welcome
Mi nombre es Karen Fernanda Hugues, I’m a visual artist, muralist and art restorer from San Luis, Arizona—a small border town in the Southwest. In 2014, I moved to Phoenix to pursue my passion for the arts, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Art Studies with a minor in Film and Media Production. I currently reside in Phoenix, AZ where I’m known for my expressive portraits of women that explore self-discovery, emotion, and the complexity of womanhood.

My art is deeply personal—rooted in my own healing. I use painting as a way to process trauma and emotions connected to self-identity, body image, and femininity. Growing up in a Latino household filled with strong women, I often turn to female figures in my work as a reflection of my growth and my ongoing journey of learning to love and honor my role as a woman. Through
bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors, I channel intimate emotions onto the canvas, allowing space for both vulnerability and power. Whether I’m painting a soulful portrait, a moment of motion, or a beloved companion, I aim to infuse each piece with emotion and story.

Working primarily in acrylic, oil, and mixed media, I create work that blends raw expression with rich color stories. My art invites viewers into a space of reflection, encouraging selfadmiration, connection, and healing. I often paint nude figures as a form of radical self-love and acceptance—art, for me, is not only a practice but a tool for liberation.

I’ve had the honor of exhibiting at the Yuma Art Center and at Xico Inc in Phoenix, AZ. I’ve had the privilege to create murals in my hometown of San Luis, and in Yuma and Flagstaff, AZ. I’m constantly seeking new ways to grow—whether by learning new techniques, connecting with community, or sharing my story through visual language.

“My work is a journey of self-exploration. Painting allows me to release, reclaim, and reimagine my relationship with myself. Pinto lo que siento, no lo que veo.”
